French roadtrip | Part 2

Some time ago my boyfriend and I went on a road trip to France. We had an amazing time camping, driving and exploring. And I'd love to share our experiences with you.

Read part 1 first!

The third and fourth night we slept at a campsite: aux pommiers in Beauvoir. The campsite is 4 kilometres from Mont-Saint-Michel and 2,5 kilometres from the departure point for the shuttles, that takes you to Mont-Saint-Michel for free.

Before we went to Le Mont-Saint-Michel we visited Avranches. We didn’t expect much going in,
but it turned out to be a beautiful town.

After we visited Avranches it was still a bit early to go to Le Mont-Saint-Michel, so we decided to walk alongside the beach between the sheep with a view on the Abbey. It was very windy and a lot of fun! You should look out for quicksand, rapidly advancing fog, chancing tides and more. But if you stay on the grass and don’t go into the sea, you should be fine. Honestly, the fact that we had to lookout for quicksand made it even more fun.By than it was time to visit the Abbey.

Mont saint Michel is a small rocky island close to the west coast of France. It was originally a tidal island, which means you could only access it at low tide. At high tide it was surrounded with water. Nowadays there is a small bridge from the main land to Mont saint Michel. You can’t drive there though, you can walk, take your bike or hop onto a shuttle.

Once it was a mound in a wooded area close to the coast. After a flood, the forest was destroyed and only the mound remained. And from 700 till 709 they build the abbey Le Mont-Saint-Michel on top of the mound. In 1979, Le Mont-Saint-Michel abbey was with complex and surrounding bay declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

Next we went to Paris!
